Olmos Basin Golf Course
Olmos Basin Golf Course offers eighteen holes of municipal golf just north of downtown San Antonio. Originally designed by George Hoffman and opened in 1963, the course underwent a major renovation by Jeffrey D. Blume in 2021. Its central location and established setting make it a practical option for both local players and visitors.
Tree-lined fairways and a creek that winds through several holes give the routing much of its character. The course combines long par 3s with par 5s that offer different strategic choices. Before selecting a club, identify the safest landing area and the angle that leaves a clear next shot. Water and trees make placement worth considering even when distance looks manageable.
The second hole is a demanding par 4 with a dogleg to the right and an uphill approach. It is a reminder to choose tees for the whole round, not just the opening hole. Five tee options range from 4,878 to 7,038 yards, providing substantial room to match the challenge to your normal distances and experience.
Undulating greens add another layer to the round. Pay attention to the part of the surface you want to reach, then give yourself time to judge pace on longer putts. The facility lists hitting nets for warmups rather than a conventional driving range. Confirm available practice areas before planning your arrival routine, and use the time to establish contact and rhythm.
Olmos Basin is located at 7022 McCullough Avenue in San Antonio. Use the Alamo City Golf Trail website or course phone for current tee times, green fees, carts, and club rentals. Check maintenance and event notices, particularly when planning with a larger group. Arrive prepared to check in and follow the day’s instructions. Bring water and stay aware of the forecast. A suitable tee choice and patient approach to the greens can make this central San Antonio round especially rewarding.
