Tenison Glen
Tenison Glen Golf Course offers a longstanding municipal golf experience in Dallas. Opened in 1924 on land donated by the Tenison family, it became the city’s first municipally owned golf course. The eighteen-hole, par-72 layout gives local players and visitors a chance to enjoy a full round at a site closely connected to Dallas golf history.
Tree-lined fairways and White Rock Creek define much of the setting. Placement matters because a clear next shot is often more valuable than a few extra yards in the wrong direction. Start with a target you can identify easily, and choose a club that keeps your usual miss away from the most difficult recovery. Let the shape of each hole guide the decision.
The course measures 6,607 yards from its longest listed tees and hosted the 1968 USGA Public Links Championship. Those facts add context, but the best way to choose your challenge is to review the available tees and play distances that fit your game. A mixed-ability group can use different tees while still sharing a comfortable, enjoyable round.
Tenison Park also includes the separate Highlands course and a practice range. Make sure your reservation names Glen, and ask about range access if you want to warm up beforehand. A brief session focused on contact and starting direction can be especially useful before a tree-lined round. Finish with enough time to reach the first tee without rushing.
The facility is at 3501 Samuell Boulevard in Dallas. Use the official Tenison Park website or call the golf shop for current tee times, rates, and booking rules. Confirm cart arrangements, rental needs, and any course notices before traveling. Arrive ready to check in and follow the day’s instructions. Keep your group’s position on the course, respect the creek-side surroundings, and enjoy a public golf setting that has served Dallas players for generations.
